The sun is an accessible and inexhaustible raw material, however its energy is intermittent.
Solar panels have been present in Africa for many years, but the Bolloré Group’s major innovation is the ability to capture, store and redistribute solar power at any hour of the day or night.
The joint development of photovoltaic generating and storage technologies is one of the keys to improving populations’ access to electricity. By allying its expertise in energy storage with solar technologies designed by Sunpower (a Total subsidiary), Blue Solutions can generate and provide 24 hour continuous access to energy that is 100% renewable and environmentally friendly.
This process operates from the basis of a solar generation station of 211 photovoltaic panels with an area of 360 m², which absorbs and transforms solar energy. The energy is sent to a storage unit based on the LMP® (Lithium Metal Polymer) battery produced by Blue Solutions.
This “giant battery” has a capacity of 180 kWh. Lastly, a computer system manages the generating station to create a truly smart electricity grid, carrying power to all the places it is required, such as the Bluebus charging stations.
Thanks to this unique technology, solar power can be used, stored and redistributed totally independently, to serve a completely clean transport network in Congo Brazzaville.
