Opening of the 11th All-Africa Games at the Stade de l’Unité in Brazzaville

The 11th All-Africa Games have been up and running since the official launch by Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso on the evening of September 4! The atmosphere at the opening ceremony in Brazzaville’s Stade de l’Unité (Unity Stadium) was electric.

Guests at the ceremony included Presidents Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon, Faure Gnassingbé of Togo, Yayi Boni of Benin, Manuel Pinto Da Costa of São Tomé and Principe and Catherine Samba Panza of the Central African Republic.

“Through all our past and ongoing combats, we in Africa have always remained united around our youth”, declared the Congolese Head of State, Denis Sassou Nguesso, at his inaugural address, emphasising youth and development as the key themes for the 11th All-Africa Games.

Following the official addresses, nearly 10,000 athletes from 43 countries marched around the stadium in a spectacular, unforgettable parade.
